چکیده

The paper provides a functional, practically oriented overview of the concept and technical possibilities of monitoring the neuromuscular fatigue via the electromyographic and the mechanomyographic signals, as essentially related to the muscle contraction and intimately mirroring muscle activation and contraction mechanisms. The Fast Fourier Transform-based and Wavelet Transform-based techniques are critically analysed, illustrated and discussed, on the international arena and through original work. An original technique the Area/Amplitude Ratio (Raa) is also comparatively discussed, as a practical alternative instrument in monitoring the neuromuscular fatigue in a dynamic contraction important issue in real life activity , e.g. work in difficult environments, pilots in mission, difficult work in normal environments.

Advantages of the Area/Amplitude Ratio over Wavelet-derived Parameters, in Monitoring Neuromuscular Fatigue

The work compares the Raa (Area/Amplitude Ratio) with Instantaneous Mean Scale (IMS) and Instantaneous Median Scale (IMedS) both computed via Wavelet Transform (WT) in a fatiguing contraction (Biceps Brachii, 50% MVC, (six females, six males), computed on different epochs (100, 200, 500 ms) from the surface electromyogram (SEMG) and mechanomyogram (MMG) from same motor territory. All three para...

Mechanomyography versus Electromyography, in monitoring the muscular fatigue

BACKGROUND The use of the mechanomyogram (MMG) which detects muscular vibrations generated by fused individual fiber twitches has been refined. The study addresses a comparison of the MMG and surface electromyogram (SEMG) in monitoring muscle fatigue. METHODS The SEMG and MMG were recorded simultaneously from the same territory of motor units in two muscles (Biceps, Brachioradialis) of the hu...

On the Use of Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation for Welded Joints Damage Characterization

A series of tests have been conducted to investigate fatigue damage characterization in corroded welded steel plates using structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques. Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique with potential applications for locating and monitoring fatigue cracks in service. In the present work, AE is implemented to characterize damage during crack e...

The Accelerometer Mmg Measurement Approach, in Monitoring the Muscular Fatigue

This research aimed to appreciate whether the mechanomyogram (MMG) may be used to monitor the muscle behavior under fatiguing exercise. The electromyogram (EMG) and MMG were simultaneously recorded from the Biceps and from the Brachioradialis muscles, with surface electrodes EMG, and accelerometer based transducers – MMG, from sixteen subjects. The conclusions are consistent in validating the u...
